Be Warned A Simple Insecticide Can Cause Cancer

New research has shown that insecticides can cause cancer. Although there have been no specific detail on the actual cause of the deadly disease, various theories and findings have shown several developments which leads to the disease in the human body.
It is essential to note that cancer is as a result of cells which continues to grow in a particular part of body and do not die. However it is widely discovered that humans use different chemicals for several purposes which includes the use of fertilizers for agricultural purposes, pesticides and insecticides and other forms of chemicals used for other health purposed.

According to the latest review by the World Health organization, a simple insecticide can definitely cause cancer in humans. The organization concluded that lindane (a chemical used for agriculture) is carcinogenic and that much exposure to the chemical could increase the risk of the rare immune cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, by 60%. Infact Lindane has been banned or restricted in most countries which  includes the United kingdom(UK) since 2009 under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), revealed that continued exposure to lindane have previously been reported among agricultural workers and pesticide applicators.

“Large epidemiological studies of agricultural exposures in the United States and Canada showed a 60% increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in those exposed to lindane,”

“This agricultural usage of lindane has been severely restricted starting in the 1970s and current general population exposure is mainly through the diet or when treated for scabies or lice,” said Dr Kurt Straif, Head of the IARC.

“There are currently no epidemiological studies to quantify the lymphoma risk from these exposures”, it said. Cancer has been responsible for the death of millions and millions are currently suffering from the deadly disease. Naij.com Home Page Think it is important? Share with your friends!
