It’s good to know that some celebrities out of their busy schedule still try to put a smile on people’s faces. It is surprising to know that the most of the charitable Nigerian celebrities are all females and I can't help but ask myself where are the men. Here is a compilation of the most charitable Nigerian celebrities in no particular order:

Iyabo Ojo: Iyabo Ojo’s foundation was formerly named Sexy Pinky Ladies in 2011 but she had to change the name following insinuations that female members of the body were lesbians. She has since changed the name to Pinkies Foundation. The primary aims of the group were bringing women together irrespective of age or social class, supporting each other and sharing ideas in business, health and improving family values. She is the only yoruba actress in the list.

Mercy Johnson: She is touching lives through the Mercy Johnson Foundation, which is concerned with making sure that underprivileged children get back to school. So far, Mercy has launched series of sensitization workshops and visitations, each time giving out gifts like stationeries to the school pupils. She is doing this, according to her, in recognition of the benefit of education in the life of every young child.

Ini Edo: Ini Edo has not registered an NGO, but she works in partnership with many agencies to bring succour and hope to the less-privileged in the society. She does this by gracing events that have charity undertone. During her recent birthday celebration a few months back, Ini Edo who is also a UN Ambassador to Youths on Habitat, celebrated with homeless kids at some charity homes, where she doled out gifts and cash in the company of some NGOs she has been working with.

Asa: Dreamer Girl is a pet project of Bukola Elemide a.k.a Asa which focuses on enhancing literacy in primary schools across Nigeria. The Dreamer Girl project builds libraries across primary schools in Nigeria and organises reading and literacy classes with organisations for the pupils. Dreamer Girl in 2013 successfully completed its first library at the Progressive high school in Surulere, Lagos.

Omotola Ekeinde: The actress is championing her social cause through her NGO which is called Omotola Ekeinde Youth Empowerment Initiative, which organizes empowerment lectures and programmes for the youth. According to Omotola, her concentration on youths stems from the fact that they are the future of the society.

Stephanie Okereke: Stephanie Okereke identified vesico vaginal Fistula, (VVF) as a dangerous condition amongst women, so she started a foundation called “Extended Hands Foundation”. Stephanie is also extending hands to aspiring youths who want to take up careers in the movie business through the Del York International programme in conjunction with the New York Film Academy

Tonto Dike: Her charity organisation caters for abused women, unwanted pregnancy as a result of Molestation/Rape and motherless children all around the world. She teamed up with hospitals, clinics, different charity organizations, churches, mosques, well-meaning personalities in the society and government to save souls. She kick-started her charity tour visiting the SOS Orphanage Home, Kib Eastern Region, Accra, Ghana.

Uche Jombo: Uche Jombo, by virtue of her rise in Nollywood through writing and acting is more in tune with breeding talents in her line of activity, which is why she launched Uche Jombo and You; a forum that grooms youths on how to become successful in the movie industry. With Uche Jombo and You, Uche hopes she would be able to pass across the lessons of success, which helped her become who she is in the industry, especially to the youths yearning for opportunities.

Waje: In 2012, Waje launched her non-profit organisation Waje’s Safe House to provide support to women and children across Africa. The safe house’s first project was financial support to the children’s primary school in the impoverished slum town of Makoko in Lagos. Most recently, Waje’s Safe House partnered with women organisations in 3 cities in Nigeria to provide computer education and facilities to young and adult women.
